Cold Canyon Road, Piuma Road, Saddle Peak Road, and Tuna Canyon Road. This represented about a half hour detour but was totally worth it! One of the wildest stretches I have driven through Malibu before. And to top it off with a long cruise down the PCH in perfect morning weather, makes for a great start to the day. Days like this are why I am reminded that I love my Miata. I drove the Subaru to work the first three days of the week and continued to observe how much of a better car it is. It handles just as well as the Miata but has double the power. And it is infinitely more practical. BUUUUUUT, it just doesnt elicit the same stupid smile the Miata can get on a ridiculously tight road with the top down!!

Yeah its some wild stuff. Its why I laugh when people pine about LA traffic. Like sure, the majority of people have to suffer with that. But there are very few places where I can have roads like that and year round access to it and barely any rain ever. It is funny though that the map zoomed out as it is barely even shows the craziness of some of that. In person some of that is full 180 degree turns at speed.

I know, I need to take detours more often. My normal commute is fun but this was just next level.

Not gonna do it every day, I need my tires and my oil and brakes to not end up ruined that quickly. But definitely will add that route into the “when I am feeling it” much more often. It’s funny because I really didnt plan on going that way. I just started out driving, was really feeling like I needed a longer , more spirited drive and just went for it. I didnt plan out any of the route either. I thought it might end at a dead end for a long time.

I would love to have this kind of option on my drive home, for when I’m “feeling it”.

I basically have to drive 3 hours out of Seattle to get roads that are as twisty as that. Washington totally has great roads! But none of them are a convenient drive from the city.

Consider me jealous.

Jealous. Here’s a close representation of road layout where I live:

Haha for most people these roads are anywhere from 1-2 hours away due to traffic. It is one of the reasons I enjoy living a bit outside the city and within throwing distance of the mountains basically. If I was somewhere far into LA, I would maybe only ocassionally get a chance to go to Malibu. And would be limited on time to get some roads in before heading out. Doing it every day, I get to explore a bit and easily remember where everything goes.
